I started performing the inventory at my own home and realized that I needed a better solution for moving my laptop around. I found myself going back and forth way to much and in this business time is a killer.

My question is, do any of you use a rolling cart or some type of  laptop holder like Connect-a-Desk while doing your inventory?

I have seen a nice convertible cart by Rubber Maid that actually folds up for easy storage. Just curious on what others do.

For the longest time I just used a printout of the data sheets and wrote the info down. Then I went ahead and put the data into my computer when I returned to my home office. As of tomorrow I will have a new laptop that will allow me to write directly into it on the screen. I will have to let you know later how it works out.

I am hoping that I can cut out some time and just have to match the digital pictures with the proper description(s). But, here again I will be testing out a new computer system for myself. Along with a new (for me) portable scanner.

My wife just says more toys for me to play with......

Skipping the forms and directly inputting seems to be a lot faster and more accurate.  Real time saver.  You don't miss information either.

It's easy for me since I have a partner.  We take turns with one at the computer ona kitchen table while the other calls out the inventory.  This way we get to keep thecomputer plugged in. We use headsets.
I thought there was some type of setup, that you put around your neck and the laptop sits on a little table carrier in front of you? Something like that.  You could, buy a tv tray and when you get to a room, you could sit down and enter everything you can just by looking around the room.  If you need model/serial numbers, just jot that on a pad and then enter it.  Then pick up your laptop and tv tray and move to the next room.  You would have to keep up with battery time on your computer though unless you plug in.

My first couple of inventories, I brought along the laptop and inputted at the job.  Then I tried using the sheets and inputting when I got back to the office.  I then went back to bringing the laptop to the job - it saves quite a bit of time.
Thanks.
