We are asked from time to time about online storage solutions for customers home inventory information.  It does seem like a legitimate solution on the surface.  Extreme security and encrypted storage online are often promised on these sites.  However, many of these Online Home Inventory sites are no longer in existence. What happens to the customers home inventory information now that the site has been shut down?

Now another disturbing development is unfolding.  A new Online Home Inventory website ( securehomesllc.com also known as "My Virtual Home Inventory" ) is now advertising both for homeowner's to upload their data and for Home Inventory Professionals to upload their customer's data (for a hefty fee).

So what's the problem?  If you take a good look at their website there are several indicators of a possible scam in progress.  The most obvious is their display of a "Online Business Bureau Trusted Site" symbol which vaguely resembles the trusted Better Business Bureau's symbol.
  - .

The Online Business Bureau is often used by less reputable individuals, companies and websites.  Additionally, websites displaying the Online Business Bureau have been linked to phishing and identity theft scams.  More consumer information can be found on the Online Business Bureau here.

Better Business Bureau's report on the Online Business Bureau.

Why would a reputable website tarnish their reputation by associating itself with an un-reputable designation?  We believe the answer is clear.  They, themselves are not trustworthy and are unable to obtain a quality accreditation from the Better Business Bureau.

KC Home Inventory is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau and consistently maintains an A+ rating - the highest rating available.  View  the KC Home Inventory BBB Report.
