Kansas Commissioner of Insurance Sandy Praeger today said insurance information for recent disaster victims in northern Kansas is available from the Kansas Insurance
Department’s Consumer Assistance Hotline, (800) 432-2484.
“The department’s Consumer Assistance Division is prepared to answer consumer questions and concerns regarding insurance in the areas hit by tornados and severe thunderstorms late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning,” Praeger said today. “We are in touch with insurance companies who have insured customers in those areas, and many companies’ disaster teams are in operation there.”
Praeger said her department is ready to act as a liaison between consumers and their carriers.
“We have current insurance carrier contact information available through our hotline representatives," she said. "We can also help if a consumer doesn’t remember the insurance company name or their policy number but does remember the agent or agency name.”
Claims adjusters for insurance companies will be working in the affected areas. If a person can’t locate an adjuster, call the Consumer Assistance Hotline, and the request will be relayed to the insurance company, agent or adjuster, Praeger said.
Praeger said consumers should deal directly with the claims adjuster from their insurance company and not public adjusters. Public adjusters aren't licensed to provide services in Kansas.
